A CN local crosses S. Badger Ave. as it heads southwest via former C&NW rails at Appleton, WI on 4 Sep. '18. The Mountable Raised Curb System with Vertical Panels (one variant of Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) approved traffic channelization devices) was installed earlier this year as part of Appleton's quest for so-called 'Quiet Zone' status. Train was headed back to Neenah after working Little Chute and Kaukauna and had two locomotives, GTW 5857 and CN 9530. The building at left, 217 S. Badger Ave., was built in 1966. Some references state it was built by Oscar J. Boldt Construction Co., other references state it was built for them. It was home to CASI in the mid-'80s. I’m not sure who owns or occupies it now. |
