Amtrak mail storage car 1754 began life in 1950 as Southern Pacific coach 2376, built by Budd for the SUNSET LIMITED. It was subsequently T&NO 449, SP 2237, AMTK 4424 and AMTK 4008, before being rebuilt into baggage car 1725. It was renumbered 1754 when it was designated a mail storage car. The little lettering on each end of the letterboard reads U.S. MAIL ONLY. The car was photographed on the northbound CITY OF NEW ORLEAMS at Hammond, Louisiana. |
