PRR 9849, EFP-15, 1966
Kern. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by Fred R. Kern that was taken near Perdix, Pennsylvania, on 2 October 1966. Shown here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engine #9849 and two "Geeps" whose road numbers are not recorded. All were built by GM-EMD. #9849 is an EFP-15 built in May of 1952 and rated at 1,500 horsepower. That's BANKS Tower in the middle distance; Blue Mountain dominates the background; between them (though not visible) is the mighty Susquehanna River flowing from left to right on its merry way to Chesapeake Bay and the Atlantic Ocean.
