Electric Action. Here is an original 35mm color slide by an unidentified photographer that was taken at the Penn Central'm Passenger Station in New Rochelle, New York, in September of 1969. Shown here is Penn Central Railroad engine #4922, a GG-1 (2-C-C-2) electric locomotive built in Juniata by the Pennsylvania Railroad during August of 1942, rated at 4,620 horsepower, and renumbered "4937" by Amtrak in June of 1973. It will pull this passenger train from New York's Pennsylvania Station as far as New Haven, where it will be replaced by diesel-electric power for the balance of the journey to Boston. |
