Kern. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by Fred R. Kern that was taken in Pitcairn, Pennsylvania, in the Spring of 1959. Shown here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #9497 and the tail-end of another unit whose road number is not recorded. #9497 is an FF-16 built by Fairbanks-Morse in October of 1950, rated at 1,600 horsepower, and retired in April of 1965 after just 15 years of revenue service. |
