Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad NW2 9248 at Oregon, Illinois on an unknown day in June 1963, photograph by Chuck Zeiler. Pictured in the cab was the regular Engineer on the Mount Morris turn, Hank Fruit, a long time "owner" of the Oregon job. I recall I was told I could ride the turn to Mount Morris if I got there in time. The only way that could happen would have been for me to stay overnight in Oregon. Unfortunately, I was only 15 at the time, so that was out of the question. I also recall that the waycar used on the turn had been damaged ( rear truck had been shoved forward because of an encounter with end of track bumper ) which would have meant a cab ride. I regret not having done that trip. |
