Here is an original photo by an unidentified photographer of an eastbound Pennsylvania Railroad freight train rounding the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania. Shown here is PRR engine #6434, a J-1A (2-10-4) "Texas" built in Juniata during September of 1943 and retired February of 1960 after just 17 years of revenue service. Note the intrepid railfans risking cinders and soot in the eyes to savor the action to the fullest! The date is an approximation. Roy Healey Collection; #4 of 9. |
