Atterbury's M-1 Engines, Page 26, 1979         
Here is the bottom portion of page five of an 11-page cover article by Bert Pennypacker entitled "Atterbury's Engines: Part 1 ~ Great Increases In Horsepower And Speed." It was published originally in the October 1979 issue of "Trains" magazine, page 26. Photo Caption: "On the eve of dieselization, M-1a 6783 had somehow escaped relocation of her turbo-generator and still presented an authentic PRR front end. Photographer [Robert R.] Malinoski caught up with her on Middle Division train M-9 at 2:13 p.m. on October 11, 1956, a mile east of Newport, Pa., with consist of 59 cars." Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #6783, an M-1A (4-8-2) "Mountain" built by the Lima Locomotive Works during March of 1930 and retired in August of 1959 and after 29 years of faithful service.
