RRMP. Here is an original photo that I took at the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania in Strasburg, Pennsylvania, on 30 June 1973. Shown here is a front-quarter view of a Heisler gear-driven steam locomotive, graced by Ms. Twyla Jean King. According to the RRMP, "No. 4 was built by the Heisler Locomotive Works of Erie, Pennsylvania, in 1918. Unlike traditional [steam] engines, geared locomotives employed reduction gearing to operate their drive wheels. This resulted in slow but powerful locomotives that were ideally suited for industrial uses and particularly popular with lumber companies." |
