Iowa Terminal Railroad box motor at Charles City, Iowa on an unknown day in August 1965, Kodachrome by unknown photographer, Chuck Zeiler collection. During 1963 the Iowa Terminal acquired three former Chicago North Shore & Milwaukee Railway merchandise box motors ( #'s 216, 234, 239 ) to ease a motive power shortage. The former 216 was renumbered to IART 31 and was destroyed in a fire in 1967. Number 234 was eventually renumbered to IATR 33, stored until 1968 and used in service until 1974. Number 239 was assigned IATR 32, but was never repainted and instead used as a parts source. By process of elimination, I believe this photo shows former CNS&M 234 ( front ) and 239 ( rear ). |
