12th Street. Here is an original photo that I took of a Pennsylvania Railroad train in Altoona, Pennsylvania, during March of 1966. Shown here (L to R) are PRR engines #6513 and #5842. #6513 is a GF-25A built by General Electric in 1965 and rated at 2,500 horsepower. #5842 is an EP-20 built in 1947 and rated at 2,000 horsepower. In this photo, #6513 is in the process of coupling with #5842 to help pull the passenger train up the Allegheny Mountains via the Horseshoe Curve to Gallitzin ~ whereupon #6513 will uncouple and return to Altoona for yet another helper/pusher run up the Mountains. Note the railroader on the other side of the tracks, who will couple all of the necessary hoses. |
