12th Street. Here is an original photo that I took of a Pennsylvania Railroad train in Altoona, Pennsylvania, during March of 1966. Shown here (L to R) are PRR engines #5842, a unit whose number is not recorded, and #5760. All were built by EMD. #5842 is an EP-20 built in 1947 and rated at 2,000 horsepower. #5760 is an EP-22 built in 1952 and rated at 2,250 horsepower. Along with their westbound passenger train, they have stopped in front of the Altoona Station. During this stop, not only will passengers get off or board the train, but both engine and train crews will change as well. Visible in the distance is the 17th Street Bridge, as well as three other PRR locomotives; the one in the middle is engine #6513, which will serve as this train's helper up the Allegheny Mountains. |
