Hazy. Here is an original photo that I took of a Penn Central Railroad train in Altoona, Pennsylvania, during July of 1973. Shown here (L to R) are PC engines #6076, #6161, #6142, and another unit whose number is not recorded. All were built by EMD. #6076 is an SD-40 built in 1966 and rated at 3,000 horsepower; its original PRR number was the same. #6161 and #6142 are SD-45's built in 1967 and rated at 3,600 horsepower each; their original PRR numbers were the same. The crew has received permission to proceed, and are in the process of pulling their merchandise freight train up the Allegheny Mountains via the Horseshoe Curve to Gallitzin and points West. Visible on the right is a portion of the PC's WORKS Tower. |
