Very little information about this intriguing little Alco S-1 unit, ome of the 543 Alco built between 1940-50. Michael A. Tedesco captured this one in South Buffalo, NY, area. Mike Woodruff's comment (below) prompted a search that yielded several corroborating facts - US Steel owns Tennessee Coal & Iron Co; at least 5 other TCI locos were shifted to the US Steel roster; similar number #701 at both plants; nearly identifcal parts on both. Therkfore, USSX 701 most probably is former TCI #701 and would become BSOR 701 and now serves the Dunlop Tire plant in Tonawanda, NY, just 12 miles away from where this photo was taken. Not absolute bwt sure a strong case. Thanks, Mike! |
