Southern Railway SD24's 6332 and 6302, along with SD40 3186 and a Missouri Pacific caboose, were parked in the New Orleans Public Belt's little yard at the east end of the Huey P. Long Bridge. The Southern had delivered the units to the MoP on run-through train 115 from Birmingham, and the MoP was using them in transfer service until they had to go back to the Southern later in the day on train 114. The two SD24's were retired the next year, while the SD40 survived well into the Norfolk Southern era. |
