PRR Coaling Tipple, 1965
Coaling Tipple. Here is an original telephoto view that I took from atop the Pennsylvania Railroad's coaling tipple in East Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 11 September 1965. Here is a another view facing westward. Shown here are two locomotives that have just exited the Roundhouse. The EMD switcher has pulled the inert ALCo locomotive to this point. After the railroader in the photo throws the switch, the EMD will push the ALCo to the East Altoona Ready Tracks so that the latter may return to revenue service. Partially visible on the right are more deadlined locomotives.
