Just two-and-a-half years old, Southern Pacific U33C has been stripped to its bare bones and sits on a whisker track at Southern Pacific's Taylor Yard, in Los Angeles. Built by General Electric in January 1973, this locomotive appeared to be beyond repair on July 16, 1975. But never underestimate the SP's shop forces, as before long this locomotive was back in service and earning its keep. This six-axle U-Boat would be retired on December 17, 1986. |
