Horseshoe Curve-1961. Here is an original photo that I took at the Pennsylvania Railroad's Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 17 August 1961. Shown here (R to L) are PRR engines #5704 and #5864-B. Both were built by EMD. #5704 is an EP-22 built in September of 1952 and rated at 2,250 horsepower, while #5864-B is an EP-20 built in February of 1948 and rated at 2,000 horsepower. In this context, they're pulling a passenger train around the Curve and down the Allegheny Mountains to Altoona and points East. |
