Horseshoe Curve-1961. Here is an original photo that I took at the Pennsylvania Railroad's Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 17 August 1961. Shown here (L to R) are PRR engines #5895, #5715, and #5868. All were built by EMD. #5895 is an EP-22 built in 1951 and rated at 2,250 horsepower. #5715 is an EP-22 built in 1952 and rated at 2,250 horsepower. #5868 is an EP-20 built in 1949 and rated at 2,000 horsepower. They are pulling a westbound mail/express train around the Horseshoe Curve and up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin and points West. |
