Horseshoe Curve-1961. Here is an original photo that I took at the Pennsylvania Railroad's Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 17 August 1961. Shown here is PRR engine #7155 and another unit whose number is not visible. Both were built by EMD and rated at 1,750 horsepower each. #7155 was built in 1958. They are pulling a mixed-cargo freight train around the Horseshoe Curve and down the Allegheny Mountains to Altoona and points East. Visible on the left is Mr. Thomas Harry Lantz of Duncansville, Pennsylvania. He was 14 years old at the time! |
