Horseshoe Curve-1959. Here is an original photo that I took at the Pennsylvania Railroad's Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 03 September 1959. Shown here (L to R) are PRR engines #5881 and #8669. #5881 is an EP-20 built by GM-EMD in April of 1949 and rated at 2,000 horsepower. #8669 is an AS-18AM built by the American Locomotive Company in March of 1958 and rated at 1,800 horsepower. Together, they are pulling a westbound passenger train around the Horseshoe Curve up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin and points West. |
