Coaling Tipple. Here is an original photo that I took from the Pennsylvania Railroad's coaling tipple in East Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 11 September 1965. This is a view toward the southern side of the tipple; Altoona is to the right. The slots in the concrete once had chutes in which coal slid into engine tenders. At right is PRR engine #7011, an EFS-17M built by EMD in 1955 and rated at 1,750 horsepower. |
