Coaling Tipple. Here is an original photo that I took from atop the Pennsylvania Railroad's coaling tipple in East Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 11 September 1965. Here is a view facing northeast toward Bellwood and the Juniata Valley. Visible at the far left are the PRR's Westbound Receiving Yards, now filled with junk freight cars. In the center are literally dozens of dead-lined Diesels, along with some old freight cars and steam locomotive tenders. Several eastbound coal trains are marshalled at the right. |
