MofW Equipment. Here is an original photo that I took of Pennsylvania Railroad Maintenance-of-Way Equipment in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, during July of 1960. Shown here is Fairmont "Flame Thrower" #9845. This machine has at least two different functions, depending upon the season. In the winter, it is used to melt snow and ice that might foul switches. In the summer, it is used to burn track-side weeds. This photo was taken from the southern end of the old Union Street Bridge. The Samuel Rea Shop is visible in the middle distance, while two more vehicles approach on the Bedford Secondary Track.
