Yard Power. Here is an original photo that I took in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, on 30 August 1960. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #5557, a BS-10A switcher built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in February of 1950 and rated at 1,000 horsepower. Note the strings of newly-reconditioned gondola and hopper cars visible on either end of the locomotive. The plume of smoke in the distance originated at the PRR's Reclamation Plant in Frankstown. |
