Looking at southeast and northeast walls of the former MILW passenger and freight depot along the CP rails at Columbus, WI on 11 Nov. '15. The depot dates to at least 1885 according to the Sanborn maps, some references state 1870s. It is wood-framed with brick veneer. This end, slightly wider than the remainder of the building, was the passenger end. When the new passenger depot (out of frame to left) was built in 1906, this became the freight house. I don't know when the railroad stopped using it, but it obviously became part of the Caldwell Lumber Co. quite a while ago. |
