LTEX 3000 GP40 enjoys New Year's weekend off at the Blacklands Railroad headquarters in Sulphur Springs. Delivered to Denver Rio Grande & Western as DRGW 3054 GP40 in January 1966, this unit was modified by Rio Grande as "trailing unit only" with the removal of cab seats, radios, and toilets in 1972 but had all cab appliances restored by 1988. At the time of the 1996 Union Pacific merger DRGW 3054 was still on the roster in active service and was to become UP 718 but was retired on December 26, 2001 before renumbering. Larry's Truck Electric picked up this unit and gave it a orange and green paint scheme (reminiscent of B&LE orange and black) and a new number, LTEX 3000. |
