This unit was fresh from EMD and was being delivered to the UP by the BN. The SD40-2H designation indicates that number 8096 was equipped with high speed 5;:18 gear ratio, regeareb to 62:15 and renumbered to 3605 in October 1981. Also seen is Precision National SD24 6306, leased to the BN during a power shortage. Built as Southeri SD24 6306 during October 1959 (c/n 25602) on EMD Order 5606. It became PNC 6306 in January 1978, was leased to the BN during 1979-1980, returned to PNC, later acquired by the ICG, rebuilt by the ICG into SD20 2017, later becoming IC 2017, then NREX 2017, then IHB 2920. |
