CN local crawls onto the former C&NW bridge over the Fox River as it services Expera Specialty Solutions (out of frame to left) at Kaukauna, WI on 11 Aug. '15. Bridge was built by American Bridge Co. of New York in 1911. The rails used to run past the red flag at the end of the bridge to the C&NW's Kaukauna yard, shops and round house. A line also branched off to go to Manitowoc. From its founding in 1883 until 26 Jun. '13, the Kaukauna paper mill was Thilmany Pulp and Paper Co. (a.k.a. Thilmany, LLC or Thilmany Papers). The rubble behind the snow fence is remnants of the old Thilmany mill, which was mostly demolished in 2013. Part of the original mill was saved and will be restored. |
