| CN container train passes the Main St. overpass and traverses the west leg of the wye at the north end of the former SOO yard as it overtakes a halted mix freight at Neenah, WI on 23 Jul. '15. The remnants of the foundation from the ca. 1955 masonry SOO depot are near the right edge of the photograph. There are rail sections supported by concrete blocks and railroad ties stacked upon it. It was built to replace the wooden depot built in 1891 on Sherry St., about 850 ft. to the southeast, which was torn down soon after the new one opened. Container train had two locomotives, IC 1008 and CN 5628. Mixed freight had two locomotives, CN 2935 and BCOL 4609. There is a convenient park bench here in Arrowhead Park, a nice spot to relax and watch trains go by. |
