Took a dump truck  Contributor's Pick!
NYSW 4006 was leading an excursion during the recent NRHS convention in Jersey when it hit a dump truck at a crossing on the ex L&HR. It made for a memorable trip, though for the wrong reasons. They moved the unit to Binghamton, and eventually back to GE for repairs. Here it is sitting outside the Binghamton shop.

Glen Wilson General I was on this NRHS excursion with my wife and two small boys. We saw the dump truck heading for the crossing and knew he wouldn't make it. The truck came from the left and almost made it through but ended up bouncing along the right side of the train right outside our windows. The truck driver had a really stupified look on his face. The 4006 was fresh from the factory, and management must have been crushed. I heard that it cost over $100k to make the repairs. We never made it to the Erie mainline and had to back up all the way to our starting point. 11/13/2024 3:24:23 PM
