N&W 2156 has just left the Museum of Transportation in Kirkwood, its home since retirement, as it is towed east to the Virginia Museum of Transportation in Roanoke, where it was built by the N&W in 1942. The move is taking place as part of a loan agreement between MOT and VMT to return the engine to its home territory. The locomotive is pictured here in the pouring rain as the train waited for a signal at Maplewood on the UP Jefferson City Subdivision. The train included support cars from VMT and NS and a crew to jnspect the locomotive during the trip. |
