CN 15950 - Experimental Canadian National Auto Railer  Contributor's Pick!
A very rare look at one of presumably three experimental auto railers that Canadian National tested during the late 1930's. According to one newspaper account describing a live radio broadcast about the experimental railbus taking place on September 9, 1937, "This latest innovation in transportation facilities is being tested out by the Canadian National Railway with a view to developing its possiblities in the way of providing increased flexibility in railway passenger travel. A similar unit is in operation in Ontario and another is in western Canada. A freight unit of a similar type is also being experimented with." In the US, a similar auto railer was built by Chevrolet/Timken/Goodrich in 1935. An interesting Chevrolet video trailer from 1935 contains a short section on the Chevrolet version partway through the clip.
