The L-shaped depot at McKenzie TN, where the L&N and NC&StL crossed. Looking northeast; the tracks are the former NC&StL Bruceton to Union City branch, now operated by KWT to Dresden. The L&N's Memphis line, now abandoned here, ran along the building's west side; a faded "Stop" sign remains. As late as 1955 the L&N still ran two daily Cincinnati-Memphis passenger trains through here each way, including a section of the fabled Pan American. CSX currently uses parts of the original L&N and NC&StL lines to get to Memphis from Nashville; they're connected here by a curved section of track behind the photographer. |
