Built in 1956 by P-S in Lot #6959 to Plan #4199 as UP 5DB sleeper 24 seat buffet (club) lounge CEDAR CITY, 1 of 10 such cars built in that Lot, which was ordered in September 1954; cars were delivered between March and April 1956. In 1965, 7 of the 10 cars were reconfigured to STAR-series 11DB sleepers (Plan #6008), CEDAR CITY as STAR BAY in June 1965. These 7 cars were assigned #17xx-series numbers in 1969, STAR BAY as #1701 in August 1969. These 7 cars were sold to Amtrak in 1971 as #2250-#2256, and in 1983-1984, Amtrak converted 5 of the 7 (#2250-#2254) to HEP #2230-#2234, STAR BAY was converted to #2230 in December 1983. In March 1997, the STAR BAY was leased to CSX, renumbered as #10020, and renamed MIAMI BEACH; the lease ended in August 1998, and the car was later sold to Dave Hoffman.
