Built in 1948 by Budd in Lot #9657-019 as CB&Q dome 26 seat buffet lounge-15 bunk dormitory-steward's room-hostess's room #251 SILVER LOUNGE, 1 of 3 such cars built in that Lot for the CALIFORNIA ZEPHYR. 2 cars were built for the WP in Lot #9657-021 (#831-#832), and 1 for the D&RGW in Lot #9657-020 (#1140). All 6 cars were delivered between October and November 1948. In April 1970, CB&Q #252 SILVER ROUNDUP burned while in storage in WP's Oakland Yard, and as a result, WP #831 SILVER CHALET was sold to BN as #252 (2nd). CB&Q #250-#251 and #252 (2nd) were sold to Amtrak as #9810-#9812, which were intended to be renumbered as BN #802-#804, but these numbers were not applied. The SILVER LOUNGE was retired in October 1981 and sold in 1987 to Charles Barenfanger-Doug Ebert.
