CN local passes the historic Atlas Paper Co. mill on the north bank of the Fox River and begins to ascend the grade out of the Flats as it heads back to the former C&NW yard at Appleton Junction, WI with 27 cars on 2 Jul. ‘14. Train had finished working Kimberly, Combined Locks, and eastern Appleton. The Atlas mill, completed in 1878, eventually became part of the Kimberly-Clark Corp. The mill ceased operation ca. 1999, the year Kimberly-Clark donated it to the Paper Industry International Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame opened its new home as well as its interactive museum, the Paper Discovery Center, 26 Feb. ’05.

T. P. Bruss General You are correct Dave. I did not think of it, but it is worth mentioning the Atlas Coffee Mill for fellow rail fans in need of some caffeine or a snack. The adjacent Fratellos Waterfront Restaurant also has a view of the tracks if a rail fan desires more substantial sustenance. 8/13/2014 4:33:57 AM
