Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad 4-6-0 Class K-4 919 at Cheyenne, Wyoming on July 24, 1956, photograph by J. Ehernberger, print by Gordon C. Bassett, Chuck Zeiler collection. Number 919 was built in 1903 by CB&Q's Havelock, Nebraska Shops as Burlington & Missouri River Railroad 40, renumbered in 1903 to B&MR 3687, renumbered again in 1904 to CB&Q 719 and classed K-4, renumbered one more time in 1951 to 919 to avoid confusion with the C&S diesels. As 719 it was an oil burner and a long-time resident of the light-railed and lonely Sterling-Cheyenne line, last operating in 1956. It was displayed at Alliance, later cosmetically restored and renumbered back to 719. |
