CRIP 652  Contributor's Pick!
Nine years before becoming famous as the RI's fan-painted Bicentennial unit, we see the RI 652 leading the remnant of the Rocky Mountain Rocket through Pilcher Park between New Lenox and Joliet. From what I understand, the trailers were hauling magazines from a publisher in Des Moines to be shipped out of Chicago. Like the 1275 in photo 2, the 652 survives today, stored outside at Mid-America Car in Kansas City, awaiting restoration (again).

Chris Lubinski General Nice catch although probably typical w/piggyback for the era!? 2/18/2014 2:30:05 AM
Richard Haave General Night Peoria Rocket (13-12) also carried pigs. This shot looks to be near Pilcher Park, if so the long shadows make this a westward train, so it may be #13 6/2/2014 11:45:55 PM
