Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad 0-6-0 Class G-10 589 at Denver, Colorado on March 23, 1958, photographer unknown, Chuck Zeiler collection. This photo presents a date problem. The print is marked 03/23/58, and the book, Steam Locomotives Of The Burlington Route, indicates that it was sold for scrap in May 1954. Number 589 was built by Baldwin in 1904 as 2-6-2, class R-4 number 1921 (c/n 24497), rebuilt by the CB&Q in April 1930 to an 0-6-0, class G-10 number 589. From what I've observed, CB&Q Engineers operating 0-6-0's tended to sit on the window while switching. |
