SBD SD40-2 8070
Seaboard System Railroad SD40-2 8070 at Cowan, Tennessee on January 17, 1985, Ektachrome by Chuck Zeiler. The first two units were the helpers (there's a gentleman between the second and third units cutting in the air), and from what I observed, the helpers were added to the front when there were 89 foot cars in the train.

Gary Everhart General Wow, 6 locos needed to move 89 cars? Must be some steep grades somewhere! 12/15/2013 6:26:49 AM
Chuck Zeiler General Just to the south of Cowan is is a hill and during my visit helpers were added to most trains for assistance. My guess is the railroad may have experienced jack-knifing issues when helpers were on the rear of trains that had 89 foot cars in the consist. I looked at Cowan today on Google Earth and there is a train pictured on the hill. 12/15/2013 11:02:25 AM
