Severed at Rushville.  Contributor's Pick!
The line from Rushville to Winthrop MO was originally laid by the Rock Island in 1872 and crossed the Missouri River into Atchison KS in 1875. It was subsequently used by the Santa Fe and MoPac to get to St Joseph from Kansas. The six-mile route was taken over by the BN about 1995 when it abandoned its own Atchison branch from nearby Armour. Flooding led to a 6 Jun 2011 embargo on the line and it remains out of service and severed at the BNSF main at Rushville (at a switch known as Davies), even if the tracks remain in for now.
