A pair of Switching Orders for the Chattachoochee Industrial Railroad to perform per customer Great Southern Paper Company
On the 1/31/1986 order, RFP box car #19346 and RBOX box car #39999 are to be moved from the Mill Yard to the Scales for weighing resulting in a switching charge of $19.00 per car. On the 2nd order dated 2/3/1986, RFP #19346 was to be moved from the Paper Shed to the Yard as the waste paper couldn't be used at the time. The 2nd move resulted in a charge of $29.00

Bryan Smith General I'm not sure why they would make a special trip over the scales to weigh cars. Everything coming in or going out from the paper mill passed over the in-motion scales so I don't understand the need to single out a few cars for weighing. Perhaps they wanted to make sure they weren't overloaded before waybills were produced. As to the RFP and car being pulled out of the shed, I can only speculate it was spotted with the plans to load it toward the Northeast so that it would pass over the RFP enroute to its destination. It probably came down this way loaded. I understand there were cheaper rates when a foreign car could be loaded back toward it's home road. 7/20/2013 6:12:26 AM
Bryan Smith General To finish the thought on the RFP car being pulled from the paper shed, it may have been spotted with a load in mind that would take it back toward the RFP. That load may have gotten pushed back so rather than have a car in the shed they couldn't use, they had it pulled until later when the load was ready. Back when I was there the mill was getting special rates when they loaded cars destined to the Northeast in BM, BAR, or MEC empty cars. A lot of those cars came south loaded with newsprint destined for various places all over the southeast. When they were emptied a lot of them came to Cedar Springs where they were loaded with linerboard paper to go back to the northeast. The result was loads in both directions. 7/20/2013 6:17:00 AM
Charles Stookey General Indeed, this just might make for a neat switching layout. 8/6/2013 2:52:25 AM
