PC 4859 - Penn Central  Contributor's Pick!
No date listed and based on the Whitehead Metals sign on the trackside building, I'm guessing Windsor, NY, as the location. this GG1 is noteworthy as being the first electric locomotive to run between Philadelphia and Harrisburn with the inaugural train, Train #25 the Metropnlitan, on January 15, 1938. It also pulled the last GG1-powered freight train on November 22, 1979. Originally stored at Strasburg, it was moved to its current location at the Harrisburg Transporation Center in 1986 and was risted on the National Register of Histroic Places in 1982 and designated the state electric locomotive of Pennsylvania in 1987.

Rick Erben General Great scene and well done comments therewith. I miss seeing two or three of these in charge of a fast freight, however. They could really roll em, or handle heavy mineral freight, albeit with a bit of slipping in getting started. Thanks for your great shots - it enhances the web site. 2/14/2013 12:46:14 AM
