A San Diego-bound "San Diegan" has just crossed the Santa Ana River and entered the city of Orange on a typically gloomy April day in 1975. The five car train is being pulled by one of Amtrak's ubiquitous SDP40F diesels (built by EMD in June 1973). In the background, just behind the rear of the train, one can see the Orange Freeway (the "57 Freeway") under construction in Anaheim, and beyond that is Anaheim Stadium, the home since 1966 of the California Angels (later renamed the Anaheim Angels, and currently the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim). This stadium, now renamed Angel Stadium, is, in 2012, the fourth oldest baseball stadium in the major leagues (behind Boston's Fenway Park [1912], Chicago's Wrigley Field [1914] and L.A.'s Dodger Stadium [1962]). |
