A new model for the BNSF Railway, as they have purchased Progress Rail PR30C demonstrators 3002 through 3005. The first to be repainted is BNSF 1320, which is the former PRLX 3002, rebuilt with a Caterpillar 16-3516 engine, which has a Tier 3 compliant emissions system. This locomotive rolled out of EMDs factory in January 1973 as Soo Line SD40-2 763. Apparently, Progress Rail was pretty sure that Union Pacific would be interested in these, as they painted the demonstrators in UP Armour Yellow and Harbor Mist Gray (as can be seen on PRLX 3004 coupled to BNSF 1320). We even noted that PRLX 3005 had a cab seat with a UP logo embossed in the back! |
