Amtrak 649 was the last SDP40F and leading one of the last two steam heated passenger consists in America out of the four needed for The Silver Star. BTW - Amtrak 649 and 639 were eventually assigned to non- revenue service on the NEC out of IVY City in Washington DC until 1983. |
