Close up of Baltimore & Ohio original Old Main Line granite sill track remnants
Here is a close up photo of one of the granite sills that the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad used to support its rail in the 1830s. Although worn by time and water, one can still make out the chiseled edge in which the cast iron strap rail sat, and the holes for the bolts that fastened the rail to the sill.
