Culvert on the old Old Main Line
The original Old Main Line of the Baltimore & Ohio railroad snaked west along the Patapsco River valley, largely following the route of the river, but also avoiding hills. This made for sharp curves and left the railroad vulnerable to flooding. Between 1900 and 1908, the railroad rebuilt most of the Old Main Line, creating tunnels, easing curves, and improving right of way. In doing so, circa 1906 the track that once ran on this 19th century culvert was re-aligned a few hundred feet south.
