AMTK 406
The Amtrak Fortieth Anniversry Exhibit Train has set up shop in front of the former Santa Fe depot in San Diego, California, and the Amtrak Police K-9 unit is there to protect it! (Actually, the K-9 unit is there to protect all of Amtraks trains in San Diego.) Amtrak 406 is a former F40PH that has had it prime mover removed in order to convert it to a Non-Powered Control Unit (NPCU), and it is coupled to the power for this train, Dash 8-40BP 822 - both of which sport special "retpo" paint schemes with lettering indicating that Amtrak is 40 years old. Besides Amtrak, this busy station also serves Coaster commuter trains and the bright red San Diego Trolleys.
